An initial screening appointment is typically required prior to scheduling a chemical peel. After considering your specific skin type, your dermatologist will recommend a peel that meets your needs and give you instructions on specific measures you should take to prepare your skin for your peel prior to your appointment. 

At your appointment, your dermatologist will apply the peel quickly and evenly. Your dermatologist will watch your skin carefully to remove the peel at just the right time. After the peel comes off, your skin will be treated as needed by your dermatologist. Post-procedure care will vary depending on the depth and type of peel. 

Healing time will vary but can take between a few days to 3 weeks depending on the level of the peel. At home care can include applying protective creams until skin heals as well as sunscreen, soaking skin, or even taking antiviral medication. 

A follow-up appointment may be required in the weeks following your peel.
